While the kitchen is the heart of most homes, the living room comes in close second. My house is no exception, we gather around the coffee table to watch T.V., mainly sports, but also movies and different shows. Or we sit on the couch for a bible study or to chat with a friend, sometimes even to have a quick meal. In all reality, the coffee table can actually be dubbed as the center of our home, it’s where most of the action happens!
After God, family, and being a sports mom, decorating is my jam! Over the years I’ve learned how to design the rooms in my home to suit not only my need for appealing aesthetics, but more importantly, they are practical for my busy and sports obsessed family. Our coffee table is put to heavy use, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t get the same treatment as the rest of the surfaces in our home. I found a way to keep it looking ‘done’, but still embody who my fam really is, all about sports, all the time!
It was quite simple actually. An old baseball mitt that belonged to my husband’s grandfather, and a vintage style football from a novelty shop provided a classic touch. Adding a small collection of a variety of books , all in the sports genre, and weathered baseballs under a glass cloche, was all it took to forge a ‘designed’ yet comfortable and functional coffee table look that works for my sports family.
Topping it off with a wicker tray, and simple greenery from the craft store, kept the feel consistent with the rest of the area. Best part is, there is still space for snacks and drinks, and for big games and events the tray and books can easily be consolidated and moved to out of the way. After all, this is still my family’s space to kick-back, relax, and take a load off after a long day of what else? Sports!
Have you decorated your coffee table to accommodate your fun sports family? What suggestions can you add to this one?
